GAP EP Episodic Format Rules/Disclaimers

So here is the deal.

Every 12 EPs (roughly 6 months time) is a GAP podcast season.

Within each podcast season, we will have a lot of what we call ‘episodic format’ EP episodes.

If you do not know a specific GAP jargon, this page is tailor-made for you!

  • We don’t watch every show that premieres… that would be overkill. Instead, we watch a lot of premieres that we are personally interested in or would be interesting to talk about.

Some seasonal shows will be covered up to the most current episode, some will only be 1-2 episodes. This is usually a result of several factors, such as the time we have, when the respective shows release their premieres, etc., so our opinions may change as more episodes get released.

Naturally, we will have our passions and favorites. Still, we always aim to be as impartial and fair as possible (or at least try to be), as the purpose of these seasonal premiere episodes is to give an objective view of what’s worth checking out and what’s not.

  • For each anime season, the GAP boys will participate in a Seasonal Bet where we determine who can pick out the “best” anime seasonals.

Before the premiere of each anime season, the GAP boys will undergo a snake draft to build out our anime rosters

For the snake draft, the first participant will make the first pick and the second participant will make two picks, followed by the first participant making another two picks. This will alternate until each participant has 10 anime series in their respective rosters

For the Seasonal Bet, we will be using MyAnimeList’s Seasonal Anime page to build our rosters

Anime seasonals that are eligible for each Seasonal Bet will vary, as our eligibility criteria change often, but we usually determine eligibility based on the number of Members each seasonal anime entry has on MyAnimeList.

  • Purpose

To clean up our plan to watch lists and to get off our butts to watch them.

    Rules

Each person’s Cleanup consists of 10 potential choices, 5 from the person’s PTW (Plan To Watch) list, and 5 from the other person’s PTW list. The other person chooses these in advance.

The choices can be anything from TV series to movies, etc., as long as it is completed (AKA not currently airing) and are readily accessible for the person and the audience if they want to watch it.

Currently, any other mediums besides anime, such as manga, LNs, VNs, video games, etc. are not eligible to be potential choices

Sequel shows, meaning Season 2 and beyond of any show, are not eligible to be picked UNLESS it is due to punishment.

Of these 10 choices per person, 2 would be chosen at random. 1 of these 5 would be from their own PTW list and the other 1 from their own PTW list.

To not overload the person’s Cleanup “homework”, a maximum of 5 cours worth of Anime is allowed.

This means that, once the choices reach 5 cours, the drawing stops even if not all 4 drawings have been done for that person.

For this limit, a movie is considered one cour’s worth of Anime.

  • GAP Retrospective

During the early months of each calendar year, we aim to release a GAP Retrospective episode to recap the anime and manga that were released in the previous year.

    GAP Redux

Throughout each GAP podcast season, we may introduce a GAP Redux episode. This Redux episode allows us to revisit a previously discussed topic that may have seen new trends or developments that warrant further discussions that are worth talking about again.

  • Purpose

To prime/prepare the listeners on upcoming anime shows that are getting adapted from highly popular and/or highly ranked manga series

We generally highlight manga series that will be premiering its anime adaptations in the following season, though some may be premiering at a later date

Manga? But… I thought the GAP podcast is an Anime Podcast?

While we spend a lot of time watching and discussing anime, we also love to (or try to) read manga in our spare time

We wanted to showcase some of the best manga series that are worth checking out, share our experience with these series, and also get the listeners ready for the adaptations to drop.

Of course, there is no guarantee that the anime adaptations will be as successful or well-received as their respective manga sources, but curiosity plays a big part in how we go about choosing what anime to watch, so why not take a leap with us and prime yourselves with some good ol’ manga?

  • The concept is that we watch all of the currently available anime adaptations of a long-running series and talk about it.

We will have spoiler and non-spoiler sections for each of the GWEA series we watched.

This is meant for listeners to join in on a journey through an entire anime adaptation run.

We usually would try to find a series that the other co-host has finished before.

  • Throughout these discussions, we usually give a list of definitions and differences regarding a specific genre or theme. These are used to give our discussion a sense of direction and make it easier to break down certain nuances that may or may not be observable to those unfamiliar with that particular genre or theme.

While we do use several sources and our own personal research/experience to define these genres and themes, we understand that they may not pertain to your interpretation or understanding of them, so please take our definitions and differences as a reference rather than the objective perspective.
